Imagine my surprise when another IPSY bag showed up in my mailbox. Rewind to last month when I cancelled IPSY as soon as it arrived. I didn’t end up doing a review of July’s bag and although the products I received weren’t horrible, they were not ones that I would personally use. That has been the main issue with IPSY is that most months I do not receive products that I use. I have tried retaking the quiz numerous times and still it is the same.
August’s bag arrived and I didn’t hate it but didn’t love it. There are more products in this bag that I would use than most months. I have tried cancelling twice and have not yet received a confirmation email. This time, I emailed a report and am waiting a response.
Now, about the products!
The full size of this product is 1.69 ounces and retails for $7.32 at Walmart. I haven’t used this on my hair yet but felt very lightweight trying the oil out on my hands. It melted almost immediately into my skin. I have received other Marc Anthony products in the past and have liked them. I cannot wait to give this oil a try on my hair.
I always love receiving brushes in my subscription boxes. This feels as if it is a well-made brush. It feels very dense which will be good for picking up shadows and/or pigments to pack on the lid. If this brush holds up well, it will be worth the price for which it retails.
Skone Cosmetics – Luxe Doubler Eye/Lip Pencil in Wine – Full Size $12.00
This pencil is a beautiful deep wine berry shade which will go perfect with my Fall lipsticks. I have never heard of this cosmetic brand before. It isn’t as creamy as they claim on the IPSY website but also isn’t a completely dry formula. Although I will use this pencil, I wouldn’t purchase it at its retail price. I feel that my drugstore lip pencils such as NYX or Rimmel go on more smoothly at a price much less expensive.
‘Pencil Me In’ Cosmetics Natural Eyeliner Pencil in Boysenberry – Full Size $10.00
This was the most disappointing product in the bag. The color went on patchy and it was an extremely dry formula. Even after five minutes, the liner smudged and wiped off very easily. It is not a product I will use or that I would even pass on to a friend. Like above, you can find much better quality eyeliners at the drugstore for half the cost.
Hikari Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Merlot – Full Size $13.00
This arrived in a beautiful burgundy wine shade which will be perfect for the fall. It will also go great with the Skone Cosmetics lip liner I received. It applied very smoothly and was a beautiful color on my lips. It is not a sticky gloss but has a slight tacky feeling which will have a little staying power. It has a plastic smell which you can still smell when you first put it on although the smell goes away in a few minutes. I am sensitive to certain scents and it wasn’t an issue because the scent is only there for a small amount of time. That being said, I wouldn’t purchase a gloss from this brand because of the scent.
Overall, I wasn’t completely disappointed in this month’s IPSY. It just didn’t “wow” me enough to not cancel. I have been receiving IPSY for about a year and half. I have periodically received some great products in that time but not enough to stay a subscriber. More often than not, the products have been sample sizes or full size of unknown brands and I find them sitting in my sample drawers rather than being used or giving them to friends as gifts. If you are new to makeup and/or building your collection, I think IPSY is a good subscription. If you already have a lot of makeup or too much in my case, this may not be the best service for you.
Customer service was fantastic and returned my email the next day and I am now cancelled. This will be my last IPSY for awhile!
